CCHAT Hearing Programs & School Services

CCHAT Hearing Programs & School Services offers diagnostic hearing testing for children, weekly listening, speaking, and comprehension lessons in Baby & Me classes, and daily speech, language, and listening therapy in toddler, preschool, and pre-kindergarten programs. It also offers small classes with state-approved reading, math, science, and social studies curricula, mainstream support services, a 20-day summer extended school year program, extracurricular activities with hearing peers, and individualized support based on a child’s educational and communication requirements.

• Newborn Hearing Programs — birth through 3rd grade · Diagnostic Testing to assess a child’s hearing abilities. It’s never too early to have your child tested for hearing loss, even if he or she is a newborn.
• Baby & Me Classes — newborn · weekly · Weekly listening, speaking, and comprehension lessons.
• Toddler, Preschool & Pre-Kindergarten Programs — toddler, preschool, pre-k · World-class preschool education with daily speech, language, and listening therapy.
• Kindergarten & Primary Grade Programs — kindergarten and primary school · Small class sizes ranging from 1 to 12 students, with state-approved reading, math, science and social studies curricula.
• Mainstream Support Programs — Support services to help children transition into a traditional educational setting.
• Extended School Year Program — 20-day summer program · Annual summer camp sessions using the same IEP/IFSP standards.

About the provider

CCHAT Hearing Programs & School Services was founded to teach children who are deaf and hard of hearing to confidently engage in mainstream society. The program is certified by the state of California to provide special education instruction for children who are deaf and hard of hearing. It has been celebrating 30 years since 1996, and its executive director is Ronda Rufsvold, PhD, LSLS Cert AVEd.

Services are provided at no charge for children who are deaf and hard of hearing and their families. The program can speak and teach in both English and Spanish. A child with hearing impairment desiring a listening and spoken language approach can enroll. It is recommended to get help between 0-3 years of age, and it’s never too late to enroll. Travel solutions are mentioned for families who live far away.
