Its mission is to create an urban agriculture and education project that empowers youth and adults to discover and participate in a local food system that encourages healthy living, nurtures the environment and grows a sustainable community. Soil Born Farms has evolved into a nationally recognized center for the promotion of urban agriculture, sustainable food systems and healthy food education.
Harvest Sacramento, connected with Soil Born Farms, is a collaborative effort of area residents, non-profits, community groups and businesses that harvest underutilized fruit and vegetables from backyards and small orchards and donate it to local food assistance agencies. Soil Born Farms has developed several education and food access programs in partnership with area schools and agencies.
