Casa Circulo Cultural Youth Programs is part of Casa Circulo Cultural, a grassroots, community-based multidisciplinary art organization founded in 2009 by Veronica Escamez. Casa Circulo Cultural is dedicated to creating bilingual arts, cultural, and educational programming reflective of the experiences of the San Francisco Bay Area Latino communities. The organization is women-led for more than 15 years and offers a Spanish immersion program with classes mainly taught in Spanish to develop, preserve, and encourage Latino and Hispanic language and culture. Its programs reflect the Latino experience in the San Francisco Bay Area and promote appreciation and understanding of Latino culture and history. Casa Circulo Cultural uses a whole-family approach that includes educational, vocational, leadership, English language, and civic programs for adults, as well as dance exercise classes.
Casa Circulo Cultural hosts or collaborates with community organizations to provide free resources, education, fun, and connections through workshops, webinars, field trips, pop-up classes, and public events. It has partnered with Redwood City School District to provide an Extended Learning Opportunities Program (ELOP) and collaborated with the San Francisco Symphony for a Day of the Dead Concert. Casa Circulo Cultural organizes and hosts a flagship Día de los Muertos Celebration in downtown Redwood City that attracts thousands of people and has impacted underserved communities. The organization is committed to serving low-income and vulnerable families by providing social, economic, health and wellness, and cultural building blocks, and after moving to North Fair Oaks it quadrupled the number of families served.
Casa Circulo Cultural and its founder, Veronica Escamez, have received multiple recognitions, including the 2022 Ohtli Award presented by the Consulate General of Mexico in San Francisco and the 2017 La Familia Award from The Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley. Additional honors include certificates and commendations from the State of California Senate, the California State Legislature Assembly, Members of Congress Anna Eshoo and Jackie Speier, the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office, the City of Redwood City, Redwood City 2020’s Welcoming Star Award in 2019, and resolutions and commendations from the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors related to Casa Circulo Cultural’s Day of the Dead events and anniversaries.
