About the provider
Norcal Crew is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to the development of youth through rowing. In the fall of 2000, Norcal’s original head coach, Mike Still, founded Silicon Valley Crew. In the fall of 2004, the crews merged into one team rowling out of the Bair Island Aquatic Center, and the athletes chose the name Norcal Crew. The program has grown steadily and now has nearly 200 members across the men’s and women’s teams.
Norcal encourages rowers to attend all practices. Athletes are asked to communicate directly with their coach about any schedule issues. Three-week trials available. Scholarships are available for qualifying families. Clothing: gym clothes and running shoes/socks. Recommended: hat, sunscreen, reusable water bottle, sunglasses, windbreaker, and water-resistant sweats in cold weather.
What families say
“Norcal fosters a community of athletes in a safe, challenging, and fun environment. I have watched my son and daughter develop as competitive athletes while making lifelong friends. They will be successful in life thanks to the habits and discipline they've learned from rowing.” — The Jett Family
“Norcal has been an incredible combination of a highly competitive team and a supportive environment — top notch coaches building great skills on and off the water. Our daughter has built friendships and life skills that will be with her forever!” — The Hill Family
“Our two boys are rowers at Norcal. The level of effort is intense but we are amazed that the boys don't mind the early hours or long practices. The discipline and focus rowing brings is unmatched. The friendships they have made are extremely strong and will last a lifetime.” — The Pirasenna Family
