Developmental Pathways for Kids is a family-centered facility that provides services to neurotypical individuals from birth through eight years of age, with a variety of diagnoses including but not limited to Autism Spectrum Disorders, Sensory Processing Disorders, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, ADHD, Sensory Deprivation, Post Traumatic Stress Disorders, Communication Delays, Muscular Dystrophy, and other learning, neurological, and psychosocial issues. Therapists work with families, physicians, teachers, and other professionals to maximize a child’s developmental progress. The mission of the program is to equip children with the skills necessary to thrive in their peer community.
Therapists at Developmental Pathways for Kids have advanced training in Sensory Processing Disorders, Autism, Dyspraxia, Apraxia, and other developmental, psychosocial, musculoskeletal, neurological, and learning disorders. The leadership team includes Rebecca Berry, Clinic Director, and Diana Smith, Speech Pathologist. Since opening in 1997, Developmental Pathways for Kids has been known as the “playhouse” to thousands of children and families in the Bay Area and has facilitated over 8,000 Integrated Playgroups.
The staff at Developmental Pathways for Kids have a strong commitment to the community and are involved with a variety of community organizations, participate in support groups, serve as board members, and provide educational programs throughout the community. Staff also offer workshops throughout the United States based on the DPK model of combining sensory integration and Integrated Playgroups. One parent described the therapists as taking “the vague and fuzzy concepts of sensory integration” and giving them “form and substance by providing an environment and methods that translate into functional skill building and success.” Diana Smith, Speech Pathologist, stated that working as part of a multi-disciplinary team strengthens her own skill set and allows the team to treat the whole child.
