Weingarten Children’s Center Preschool includes specific activities such as Morning Music as part of its program. The preschool is part of a Listening and Spoken Language (LSL) school and clinic that offers four programs that teach children who are deaf or hard of hearing to listen, speak, and learn. The program uses a comprehensive, sophisticated, highly effective cognitive curriculum, family-centered education, and innovative technology, and includes access to an audiology booth installed at the Leahea Grammatico Family Center.

Weingarten Children’s Center was founded in 1967 by eight families, and the Foundation for Hearing Research has been dedicated to supporting children and families for 59 years. The preschool is supported by qualified Teachers of the Deaf/Deaf and Hard of Hearing Specialists (DHHS) and specialized Speech and Language Pathologists (SLP). The leadership and professional team includes roles such as Director of Student Services, Program Manager, Executive Director, Director of Family Services and Teleservices Program Advisor, School Business Operations Administrator and Teacher of the Deaf, Talk2Me Program Manager, Office Manager, Administrative Assistant, Assistant Directors of Student Services, Teachers of the Deaf, Paraeducators, Mentor Teachers, Speech Language Pathologists, an Occupational Therapist, an Educational Audiologist, and an Otology and Neurotology Specialist and Medical Otologist who is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology (Head and Neck Surgery) at Stanford Medicine. The organization’s mission, through the Foundation for Hearing Research, is to transform lives, teaching them to listen, speak, and learn through proven spoken language and cognitive development curriculum, family-centered education, and innovative technology. The program has received recognition including the 1974 Program of the Year Award for Distinguished Work by Jean Weingarten Peninsula Oral School for the Deaf. Community involvement includes collaboration with local public school systems and a partnership with Stanford School of Medicine for the BabyTalk Teleintervention Program, which offers one-on-one teletherapy using a caregiver-coaching model. Additional unique features connected to the broader program include the Coach-Assisted Parent Learning App (Talk2Me), the BabyTalk Teleintervention Program, and the virtual Listening and Spoken Language (LSL) program TeachLSL.
