Starting in 1986, Founder and CEO Claudia Sjoberg began by teaching kids how to swim at one location, later launching Pedalheads Bike camps in 1995, trail riding in 2007, and Pedalheads Soccer in 2025, with more than 250 locations across Canada and the US today. The organization reports 40+ years of leadership across over 1 million kids’ day camps and lessons, and notes that more than 700,000 kids have taken part in its programs. In 2018, Claudia Sjoberg received the 2017 RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur TELUS Trailblazer Award, and her dog Muffin joined the team in 2020 and is described as a household name at the Pedalheads headquarters.

Instructors undergo thorough background checks before joining the team and are trained in skill development, safety, class management, and program delivery. The program states it has a zero-tolerance policy for bullying or discrimination of any kind and describes itself as a nut-aware camp where families are asked to avoid bringing nuts if possible. Camps and lessons run rain or shine, with activity adjustments or cancellations possible in potentially hazardous weather, and air quality decisions are based on recommended guidelines from Canadian and American health agencies.

Pedalheads Camps and Lessons describes its mission as inspiring kids to believe in themselves through fun, adventure-filled swim, bike, trail riding, and soccer programs across North America. Pedalheads+ was launched to provide no-cost camps and lessons to families with geographical, financial, or other barriers. The program reports a Google Reviews rating of 4.8 based on over 2,000 submissions and offers a notification list when programs are full, as well as two make-up swim lessons per lesson set for any reason.

For bike camps, families are asked to pack a bicycle, properly fitted bike helmet, water bottle and snack, weather-appropriate clothing, closed-toe shoes, a small backpack, and any required medication, with additional items such as sunscreen, lunch, extra snacks, and a change of clothes for all-day campers. For trail riding camps, kids need a ready-to-ride bike that is at least 14 inches, without training wheels and with front and back hand brakes and gears, along with a properly fitted helmet, small backpack, hydration, weather-appropriate clothing, closed-toe athletic shoes, and any required medication, plus lunch, snacks, sunscreen, and a change of clothes for full-day options. For swimming, families are asked to bring a bathing suit, towel, indoor footwear, swim diaper for parent and tot classes, and optional goggles and swim cap.

One parent from British Columbia reports that their child went from not being able to swim to swimming by day three in a small class with an instructor who provided clear summaries after each lesson. Another parent from Ontario describes an instructor as patient and gentle, saying their child went from scared to confident and wanted to return the next week. A parent from Colorado notes that their child’s trail camp involved many miles of riding, that the camp was well run with a knowledgeable team, and that their child was excited to return each day.
