About
Pedalheads Swim offers swimming lessons, swim camps, and private swimming lessons, including the Parent & Tot: Jellyfish level. The program also runs bike camps, trail riding camps, and soccer camps and classes as part of its broader offerings.
• Ages: 0–12 years old
• Schedule: Classes range from 25 minutes to 55 minutes to 115 minutes.
Since 1986, Pedalheads Swim has offered youth swim lessons using proven teaching techniques, customized swim methods, and specialized equipment. Kids can start youth swimming lessons as early as 4 months old in the Parent & Tot: Jellyfish level, and they are placed in clearly defined levels based on age and ability from Parent & Tot through Swimmer 9 and Bronze-level lifesaving courses. The program offers weekly lessons every season and week-long swim camps during spring, winter, and summer breaks, with longer classes and smaller groups and in-water instruction. Each progression includes swim level-specific toys, tools, and tactics, and kids’ swimming lessons use interactive games. Programs emphasize gentle encouragement, warm pools, friendly instructors, and play-based learning for nervous swimmers. A free 60-minute swim lesson is available as a trial, with one free trial lesson per child per calendar year, and there are two make-up lessons per lesson set for any reason for swim lessons. Pedalheads programs run rain or shine, with possible adjustments or cancellations for hazardous weather or air quality, and there is a zero-tolerance policy for bullying or discrimination of any kind.
All Pedalheads swim instructors complete specialized training and must hold a Bronze Cross certification along with Standard First Aid and CPR-C before teaching, and many also receive additional training through the Lifesaving Society's Swim for Life Instructor Course. Instructors undergo thorough background checks and are trained in skill development, safety, class management, and program delivery. The mission of Pedalheads is to inspire kids to believe in themselves, with programs that focus on goal-based progress where kids build real skills. Programs are designed for steady, confidence-building progress with longer lesson times, small group sizes, and level-based progression.
Pedalheads Swim was founded in 1986 in Vancouver, BC, by Claudia Sjoberg, originally under the name Atlantis Programs. Since 1986, the organization has been a leader in bike, swim, trail riding, and soccer summer camps and lessons for kids 2–12 of all skill levels. Founder and CEO Claudia Sjoberg received the 2017 RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur TELUS Trailblazer Award. Through Pedalheads+ Plus, the organization brings its programs to underserved communities as part of its mission to inspire as many kids as possible to believe in themselves and live confidently.
One parent from British Columbia shared that their daughter started not being able to swim and by day three she was swimming, and they appreciated the small classes, excellent instructor, and clear summaries after each lesson. Another parent from Ontario described an instructor as patient and gentle, and said their child went from being scared to wanting to return the next week. A parent from Colorado noted that their child rode many miles in a trail camp and remained excited to return each day, and described the camp as well run with a knowledgeable team.
