About
Richmond Gymnastics Association Programs offers recreational gymnastics, competitive gymnastics, and Gymnastics for All (GfA). The programs include Active Start/Foundations classes, an advanced/competitive stream, and full-day summer camps.
• Ages: 5–12 years old
• Schedule: Office hours Monday to Friday, with listed hours between 8:30am–3:30pm or 4pm–8pm on weekdays and 9am–1pm on Saturdays; closed on statutory holidays
Richmond Gymnastics Association was started in 1969 by Shirley Bakaway and Judy Rithaler, with the program installed into the Sea Island Forum in the mid-1970s and the current River Road facility in use since 2016. Programs are led by certified coaches who are educated, experienced, and certified in varied levels of the National Coaching Certificate program specific to gymnastics, and who understand the importance and concepts of physical literacy. The organization’s mission is to develop, engage, and support participants at their levels of competence to either build on the fundamentals of physical literacy to stay active for life, or to compete successfully in the sport of gymnastics. Richmond Gymnastics Association is a registered not-for-profit society incorporated under the BC Societies Act and is governed by a volunteer board of directors, and as a member of Gymnastics BC and Gymnastics Canada, it is regulated by the policies and rules of these bodies. The organization identifies Friendship, Excellence, and Respect as its core values, and it engages with the community as a whole and contributes to a healthy, safe, and sustainable society. It acknowledges and recognizes the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) First Nation and First Peoples of the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ language group on whose traditional, ancestral, and unceded land it lives, works, and plays, and it lists financial assistance connections with KidSport Richmond, Kidsport Vancouver, Jumpstart, and A4K.
