Steadfast Martial Arts offers training in Jiu Jitsu, wrestling, Muay Thai, combat sports, and kickboxing. The program takes place in an inclusive training facility with state-of-the-art training spaces. Walk-ins are welcome.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
The leadership team includes Caleb Khan, who is a black belt under Eduardo Fraga and Ralph Gracie and serves as an instructor, competitor, and head of the grappling program; Jon Lawrence, who coaches Muay Thai for youth and adults; Anita Shammee; Gian Traverso, who is the wrestling coach; and Alan Joyce, who is a Jiu-Jitsu instructor. Steadfast Martial Arts states that it believes in fostering strength, skill, and confidence through inclusive and rigorous training and offers Jiu Jitsu and other combat sports programs for youth and adults, with a focus on rigorous and technical training to create well rounded fighters and future instructors, and giving members tools to get in shape, develop confidence, and, if interested, become future Steadfast instructors or black belts.
Jon Lawrence began his Muay Thai training at Cheetah Muay Thai in Oakland in 2010, trained at Rawai Muay Thai in 2014, started KickSmart to combine Muay Thai training with meditation in public schools in Richmond and Oakland, coached youth and adults at PFMMA in Albany, and offered free kickboxing training to Oakland youth at Guardian Gym during COVID. Anita Shammee began martial arts at age 8 in Enshin Karate under Nima Mazhari in Falls Church, Virginia, trained there for 15 years, won 5 world championships from 2012 to 2016, moved to California in 2016, began training jiu-jitsu at Ralph Gracie Berkeley, and received her black belt from Eduardo Fraga in 2024.
