YES Youth Programs

YES Youth Programs offers a Youth Leadership Pathway that spans ten years, beginning in childhood and continuing through young adulthood. The program includes Family Camps in the redwoods that bring together youth and adults for community retreats. Through these programs, YES cultivates leadership among Richmond youth, adults, and whole families with year-round training, strong mentorship, and experiences in nature. Family Camps also serve as a setting where youth and adults practice leadership within their families and community.

YES states that its mission is: “In partnership with nature, YES nurtures leaders who champion the wellbeing of our community.” The organization offers an Adult Leadership Pathway made up of progressive programs that increase the leadership capacity of Richmond adults to improve community conditions. YES describes its pathway programs as nurturing youth to develop the skills and confidence to work toward a just society and a sustainable environment. The organization collaborates in efforts to increase equity and inclusivity in the outdoors and works to increase access and break down barriers for those historically excluded from the outdoors. YES describes its work as reclaiming connection to the earth and embracing the power of nature to heal, inspire awe, and develop empowered and compassionate leaders. It also describes creating brave spaces that foster cross-cultural relationships, build resilience in the community, and unite people in common cause.
