Classical and Contemporary Dance states that it offers high-quality ballet training in a nurturing, non-judgmental, supportive environment for dance students and welcomes both recreational and pre-professional performers. The teaching philosophy is described as rooted in patience, understanding, guidance, and structure using the art of discipline, with an emphasis on body awareness, alignment, strength, stamina, grace, and posture, and instructors state that they strive to instill in students the qualities of a dancer and encourage students to use these disciplines in their daily lives. The program describes its vision as offering a home away from home for dancers and a place for accomplished dancers to display their talents, and notes that new classes are coming soon, including Children’s Tap and Hip Hop, Teen/Adult Contemporary, and more Adult Beginning Ballet classes.
Classical and Contemporary Dance is founded and directed by Tamara Grose, who earned a B.F.A. from the North Carolina School of the Performing Arts and toured with its affiliated touring company in 36 U.S. states through the Artist in the Schools Residency program. Her background includes a full scholarship to Harkness in New York City, performances in a David Howard gala with Peter Martins and Gelsey Kirkland, dancing La Bayadere with Richard Englund of ABT’s second company, and being pictured in the New York Times with Pauline Koner Dance Consort. She has choreographed for NYC Dance Congress, the National Endowment for the Performing Arts Festival at NCSA, North Carolina Dance Theater, the International Dancing Poetry Festival in San Francisco, and regional dance companies throughout the U.S.A., and has taught at Allegra Kent Ballet School, Brooklyn College Dance Department, and in master classes on a U.S. tour in 36 states. She has been Associate Faculty of Ballet and Yoga at Santa Rosa Junior College for 18 years, holds certifications in Yoga and Massage Therapy, and serves as instructor, director, and choreographer for Classical and Contemporary Dance.

She trained at Santa Rosa Ballet under Julian Heron and Emily Stubbs, continued at Marin Ballet and in Bay Area master classes, and received extensive ballet teacher’s training through the Royal Academy of Dance, headquartered in London, England. In addition to teaching ballet at Classical and Contemporary Dance, she teaches first grade at Hidden Valley Elementary School in Santa Rosa.
