Spreckels Theater Education Program (S.T.E.P.)

The Spreckels Theater Education Program (S.T.E.P.) includes activities such as the Pure Imagination Camp, Pure Imagination Jr. performances, and The Sponge Bob Musical Camp. Pure Imagination is a brand-new revue featuring songs from Broadway musicals such as Seussical, Shrek The Musical, Peter Pan, Beauty and the Beast, Frozen and more. Juke Joint Jukebox and Seussical are also part of the program’s offerings.

• Ages: 8–17 years old
• Schedule: Pure Imagination Camp runs January 20–March 26, 2026 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00–7:00pm; Pure Imagination Jr. performances take place March 27–29, 2026; Juke Joint Jukebox runs April 10–12, 2026; Seussical runs May 1–17, 2026; The Sponge Bob Musical Camp begins June 29, 2026, Monday–Friday from 10:00am–3:00pm, with performances July 24–26, 2026
• Price: Pure Imagination Camp tuition is $500; Pure Imagination Jr. tickets range from $17–$20 for general admission and $12 for children, depending on residency; Juke Joint Jukebox tickets are $35 for general and $25 for children; Seussical tickets range from $42–$44 for general, $37–$39 for seniors, $30–$32 for young adults, and $16–$20 for children, depending on residency; The Sponge Bob Musical Camp tuition is $600

Pure Imagination offers a fun introduction for young performers who are new to musical theatre. Juke Joint Jukebox is described as an electrifying educational cabaret that brings legends such as Ella Fitzgerald, Ray Charles, Dorothy Dandridge, and Harry Belafonte to life, and is part concert and part history lesson. Juke Joint Jukebox is described as a high-octane journey that celebrates the artists who shaped American music with powerhouse vocals, storytelling, and rhythm. Seussical is described as a high-energy, heartwarming, family-friendly musical that brings Dr. Seuss stories to life with toe-tapping songs, dazzling visuals, and a story about friendship, bravery, and believing in the impossible.

Now in its twenty-second year, the Performing Arts Center continues to present award-winning theatre, music and dance. Over 20,000 people a year come through its doors from all over the Bay Area, making Spreckels a facility that entertains the entire region. Seussical is directed by Kim Bromley, with music direction by Lucas Sherman and choreography by Karen Miles.
