About
Group Music Classes and Clubs offers group music activities that include a Ukulele Beginning Group Class, a Ukulele Beyond the Basics Group Class, and the River City Dulcimers Club. The program also includes beginning group lessons and a play-along for dulcimer players.
• Ages: 12–18 years old
• Schedule: Ukulele group classes meet on Mondays in June at 6pm and 7pm, and the River City Dulcimers Club meets on the 3rd Saturday of the month with beginning group lessons from 1–2pm followed by a play-along
• Price: Ukulele Beginning Group Class ($100/MONTH); Ukulele Beyond the Basics Group Class ($100/MONTH)
The Ukulele Beginning Group Class is described as perfect for first-time players and covers tuning, basic chords, strum patterns, and easy songs in a relaxed, supportive group setting. Drop-ins are welcome the month prior or at the first class, with a request to call ahead for anyone who wants to try it out before committing for the month. The Ukulele Beyond the Basics Group Class is designed for players ready to level up and explores new styles and techniques each month, and this class often fills up, so families are asked to call ahead for demo availability or reserve a spot early.
The River City Dulcimers Club invites brand new players as well as those who have been playing for a while to come and join, and it is a place to ask beginner dulcimer playing questions. Participants can bring their own dulcimer or let Dusty know ahead of time so one can be provided, and donations are welcome but not required.
This group is hosted by Dusty Thorburn, an educator and folk/roots music enthusiast, who also serves as the host of River City Dulcimers Club. The Strum Shop lists a copyright range of 2007–2026.
