Take Note Troupe (TNT) teaches positive paradigms that cultivate generosity and joy by encouraging validation of self and others on stage and off. TNT produces family friendly principle-based productions and PLAY THEORY workshops and provides an environment with positive peer interaction where participants gain confidence, discover talents, develop leadership skills and provide service in their community. PLAY THEORY principles are based on improv rules and cognitive behavior therapy and teach participants to Be Present, Let Go and Play, Accept and Build, and Look Outward. TNT’s original methodology, PLAY THEORY, instills a positive paradigm or mindset that cultivates hope, generosity and validation of self and others while combating negative cynicism. All of Take Note Troupe’s productions are family-friendly, and TNT’s high standards of conduct produce the fruits of self discipline enjoyed by those who follow through on commitments.

In 2003, two teens asked their mothers to teach them about Shakespeare, gathered a small group of peers, and staged a scaled down production of The Tempest in a backyard, which led to an annual community tradition of Shakespeare in the Park. Over the years TNT has mentored hundreds of youth and served thousands more in the community. In 2025, TNT gave eight free-to-the-public performances of Much Ado About Nothing in Roseville, Rocklin, Fair Oaks, and Folsom. For most of the last twelve years, TNT members have given a free, weekly Cognitive Behavioral Therapy workshop using PLAY THEORY for at-risk youth in Koinonia foster programs. Take Note Troupe is a not for profit 501(c)(3).

TNT’s founder is LaRee Florence. TNT’s MainStage productions feature elite students who have mastered PLAY THEORY in performance and are more experienced on stage, while TNT’s Children’s Theater productions give younger students an opportunity to continue developing their PLAY THEORY skills performing on stage. TNT strengthens society by providing young people a safe environment to develop valuable life skills and an opportunity to serve through theatrical performance, and TNT seeks to change the world, one participant and performance at a time.

One parent shared that “PLAY THEORY changed the trajectory of my child’s life. They gained skills to manage their anxiety and overcome their fears. I was afraid my son would never recover from the bullying he endured his freshman year. When a friend recommended that he join TNT I had no idea what a miracle PLAY THEORY would be in his life. Our whole family has embraced PLAY THEORY and there is so much less arguing.” Another parent said, “My daughter has always had a beautiful voice but she was very shy. I am so grateful for PLAY THEORY which gave my daughter the confidence to sing out and share her talents with others. I love the energy and joy that comes when we work together to make a wonderful show. I’ve never been in another group that was so talented yet so validating and supportive. I know it’s because of PLAY THEORY.”
