About
Placer Robotics Camps and Programs offers hands-on robotics activities that include VEX IQ robotics, V5 competition robotics, combat robotics, coding, Python coding for robotics, VEX IQ programming, 3D design, CAD design, and 3D printing. Campers take part in hands-on building, drivetrain basics, weapon systems basics, team challenges, prototyping, challenge sessions, mini-competitions, and a final competition in the combat robotics training camp. The program also includes mechanical design for combat-ready robots, electrical systems integration, motor control, and tactics and durability testing for BattleBot-style matches.
• Ages: 7–15 years old
• Schedule: Camps run in three- or four-day sessions, mostly Monday–Thursday, with morning options around 9:00 AM–1:00 PM or 9:00 AM–12:00 PM and afternoon options around 1:30–5:30 PM, including a two-week combat robotics training camp.
• Price: Sessions range from $249 to $649 per camp, with capacities between 16 and 24 students and an early bird 10% discount (excluding the combat training camp).
Placer Robotics is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing hands-on robotics experiences for students in grades 2–12 through camps, workshops, and competitive teams. PART – Placer Advanced Robotics and Technology is an independent 501c3 nonprofit community organization that offers robotics and technology activities for students in grades 4–12 and promotes STEM education, outreach, and awareness in and near Placer County, California. Placer Robotics has been teaching classes and mentoring teams since 2015 and is a 7-time VEX Worlds qualifier and 8-time NRL Nationals Combat Robotics qualifier, with teams that have earned Design, Excellence, and Robot Skills Awards at California State VEX Robotics Championships.
Camp Managers and Lead Instructors are college students and rising high school seniors who are former or current robotics team members, and group counselors are typically robotics high school team members or rising 8th graders. Camp size typically ranges from 16–27 students, most students are grouped in teams of 2–3, and most VEX IQ camps have counselor ratios in the 4:1 to 6:1 range depending on level. Camp ages and grades are based on Fall 2026, capacity is limited for all camps with waitlists when camps fill, and each camp has multiple sessions, including beginner-friendly VEX IQ camps, returning camper open build weeks, a two-week combat robotics training camp, V5 fundamentals, Python coding for robotics, and a beginner coding camp with VEX IQ programming and challenges.
Returning campers can join open build weeks that include extra build time, prototyping, and challenge sessions, and there is a 3D design camp with intro to CAD design and 3D printing led by PART combat robotics mentors. The program uses Zeffy for registration, a free platform for nonprofits, and any optional Zeffy contribution at checkout does not go to Placer Robotics and is completely optional. A limited number of half and full scholarships are available based on financial need, and the program notes that it does its best to pair kids up based on requests and grade level.
