Families can also take part in Family Worship and Worship with choir, which is available both in person and via livestream.
• Ages: 3–11 years old
• Schedule: Sunday School classes meet on Sundays at 10am as part of the 10am Worship with choir; additional church activities are scheduled throughout the week, including Sunday worship at 8am, Family Worship at 9am, Women’s Bible Discussion on Mondays at 7:30pm (Zoom), Dinner Church on 2nd Tuesdays at 6pm, Bible Study on Wednesdays at 1pm, Christian Classics Lite on Thursdays at 11am, and Men’s Group on 2nd Saturdays (usually) at 8am (in person)
The program is part of the ministry of St. John’s Episcopal Church, whose mission is to pray, worship and celebrate the Gospel while responding to the needs of its communities and building relationships to support people on their journey of faith. Parents of children are encouraged to volunteer in Sunday School and at children’s events and programs throughout the year, and Safe Church Training is required for parents who volunteer. St. John’s states that Sunday school is just the beginning of a lifelong spiritual journey where children are nurtured in their faith, and it offers a worship bulletin that families can access at home through the weekly St. John’s E-Connect email every Thursday, which they can download and print for their kids. Access to online games is also available, and there are special programs and events planned throughout the year for children, including celebrations of special days and holidays in Sunday School.
St. John’s describes itself as a spiritual home that welcomes all, loves and respects all, and serves all in Christ’s name, and states that the core values of the church emphasize care for its congregation, community, environment, and civic responsibilities. The church states that it connects with people no matter where they are on their spiritual journey, strives to assist people regardless of faith, race, gender, sexual orientation or socio-economic status, respects people’s faith, spirituality, religious backgrounds and personal journeys, and embraces change as an opportunity for personal and communal spiritual growth. St. John’s also states that it embraces empowering people to develop, foster and strengthen their own personal connections with Jesus Christ, and that it serves with open and loving hearts and minds in the hope that its words and actions reflect the spirit of God. These values were adopted by the St. John’s Vestry on 09.15.21 and revised on 11.16.23.
The leadership contact for this program is the Director of Children’s Ministry, and parents are directed to email Sandra Jean Pathik in that role. The church also invites people to pray and consider supporting its ministries by volunteering and sharing their blessings. A testimonial associated with the program describes it as “a fantastic, thoughtful, soulful and inspiring” experience, though it is unattributed.
