Cal North Youth Soccer Programs include soccer games and events such as the Cal North District 5 Cup. At the 2025 Cal North District 5 Cup, activities include face painting, bouncy castles, and various activities and vendors at the Petaluma Community Sports Fields.
• Ages: 4–14 years old
• Schedule: The preliminary group stage round of play at the 2025 Cal North District 5 Cup in Petaluma consists of three games for each team, with 2 games on Saturday and 1 game on Sunday, on November 15–16, 2025.
Cal North was established in 1969 by Donald Greer, and it was the prototype and predecessor for other state soccer associations as well as for the formation of US Youth Soccer in 1974, also founded by Donald Greer. The mission of Cal North is for its Nine Districts to lead world class membership support with resources to ensure members score their goals as leaders in Northern California. Cal North operates competitive and recreational soccer programs regardless of skill level or ability, with programming that includes grassroots programming and competitive playing opportunities at the regional and national levels. Cal North emphasizes a vision of “kids first” and offers programs for elite level players, competitive players, and players with specialized needs.
Cal North offers an Olympic Development Program (ODP) that provides enhanced training and competition against other state association ODP teams. Cal North is the qualifier for US Youth Soccer regional and national competitions through the Cal North State Cup and provides a pathway to regional and national competitions via the Cal North State Cup. Cal North is the only state association in the country that is a league operator of MLS NEXT. Cal North offers Real Madrid Foundation Soccer Camps in multiple California cities and provides a comprehensive set of member benefits including robust health and safety protocols.
The leadership team includes Executive Director Marley Wilson; Creative Director Javier Arellano; Coaching Education & ODP Managing Director Joyce Bordley; Technical Director of Coaching Education Jeremy Williams; Business Operations Manager Devon Yoakam; District 2 Administrator Amin Fazal; District 3/4 Administrator Fred Wilson; Assistant District 3/4 Administrator Tyler Darke; District 5 Administrator Dane Denkers; District 7 Administrator Linda Sorelle; and District 8 Administrator Shanon Gallant. Jeremy Williams is a U.S. Soccer Coach Educator who holds a USSF A License and a United Soccer Coaches Premier Diploma, serves as the Technical Director of the Young Olympians Program and a State ODP Coach with Cal North, studied Biology and Geology at Portland State University, and holds a Master’s Degree in Education with a focus on curriculum design and assessment. Dane Denkers is a USSF Grassroots licensed coach currently working on his D License.
Cal North partners with Soccer Without Borders, providing teams with competition opportunities through annual tournaments and ongoing leagues. Supporting partners for Cal North include Telemundo48, Stanford Medicine Children's Health, Dick's Sporting Goods, and Prime Hydration. Cal North includes more than 250 leagues and clubs, over 30,000 coaches and administrators, and more than 125,000 players and their parents united in the promotion of soccer and the development of future generations.
At the 2025 Cal North District 5 Cup, parking will be available and free of charge. Awards at this event include medals and a team trophy for champions and medals for finalists. Teams are required to check in on the field prior to match kick-off with the referee, using the roster template provided to all teams in previous emails. Prohibited items at the 2025 Cal North District 5 Cup include dogs or other animals, food or drink on the turf, alcohol, and weapons.
Clovis Junior Soccer League has been part of the Cal North family for 46 years, and its League President, Carmen Saucedo, states that the professionalism and support from the State office and staff is one of the main reasons they continue the partnership and that they look forward to future developments. Soccer Without Borders Founder and Oakland Director Ben Gucciardi states that Soccer Without Borders has partnered with Cal North for 12 years, that Cal North provides Soccer Without Borders teams with positive, formal competition opportunities through annual tournaments and ongoing leagues, and that Soccer Without Borders teams look forward to the annual Founder's Cup and Association Cup as some of the few larger tournaments available to recreational level teams and a highlight each year.
