Directors Allyson Deane and Don Schwennesen are San Francisco Ballet dancers. Deane Dance Center and Sac Civic Ballet were founded by Barbara Crockett, founder of the Sacramento Ballet, and her daughter and son-in-law, Allyson Deane and Don Schwennesen. Ms. Crockett’s 70+ year legacy is continued in Deane Dance Center. Since 1994, the school has won many nationally recognized awards, including an award from Regional Dance America/Pacific (RDA/P) for an original choreographed ballet.

The program offers a summer session that can be paid per class from KinderBallet through adult, and it includes a personalized program with privates, semi-privates, and small group instruction. It offers age-appropriate ballet classes from preschool through high school and beyond for girls and boys of every skill level. The syllabus was developed by Deane and Barbara Crockett and combines elements of different techniques, including Cecchetti and Vaganova. Guest teachers and master classes are included in the curriculum, and bi-annual ballet performances highlight dancers from the school and the pre-professional company. Adult-level classes are available for all levels and abilities of adults.

Opportunities for more accomplished dancers include the Judson Project, an advanced training tool for the serious dancer, and a chance to participate in the nonprofit Sac Civic Ballet Company. Company jackets and vests are available for dancers in the Sac Civic Ballet/Crockett Deane Apprentice/Petite Company, and old company members may remove the old company designation and put a new company on the jacket for $5. 4K Nutcracker videos of both performances are available at the studio on a USB-C flash drive, with a bonus Madeline Spring Ballet included for free.

The mission of Deane Dance Center states that its goal is to build a dancer with a beautiful spirit within and without, and that it values discipline, work ethic, focus, creativity, and support of one another. The mission also states that Deane Dance Center appreciates each child's uniqueness and encourages both self-confidence and the discipline essential for learning. One parent testimonial describes Deane Dance Center as “a marvelous child-centered studio” and praises the directors and teachers as dedicated.
