Skip's Music Lessons and Youth Programs (Stairway to Stardom) offers private and group music lessons, music clinics, and the Stairway to Stardom and Weekend Warriors programs. Students can take guitar, bass, drums and percussion, vocal and singing, keyboard and piano, harmonica, violin, brass, woodwind, and ukulele lessons with instructors who are described as experienced industry professionals. Skip’s Music Inc. was officially established in 1973, and its headquarters moved to its current Auburn Blvd location in 1979. In 1981, Skip’s Music premiered its annual summer youth program Stairway to Stardom for young musicians ages 10 to 17, which includes auditions, a final concert, and recording studios, and since 1997 it has also hosted the Weekend Warriors performance program for adults. Skip’s Music’s founder and owner, Skip Maggiora, is described as the pioneer of Sacramento’s music industry and has served on the board of the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) and is a founding member of the Alliance of Independent Music Merchants (AIMM).
At Skip’s Music, instructors create an environment where students can explore their instrument, gain confidence, and develop pride, discipline, and a lifelong enjoyment of music. Through its music programs and services, Skip’s Music is described as more than just a music store and as historically and continually groundbreaking in the worldwide music industry, with Stairway to Stardom and Weekend Warriors described as world-renowned and shared on national platforms such as the annual NAMM shows.
Skip’s Music is described as a dedicated music educator in the Sacramento community and has fostered a relationship with the Sacramento community and international sponsors through Stairway to Stardom. It partners with local charter schools to provide students with access to music education and currently serves families from The Cottonwood School, ALTA California Regional Center, Horizon Charter Schools, South Sutter IEM Charter School, Visions in Education Charter School, Vista Charter Public Schools, Feather River Charter School, Lake View Charter School, and others that are added regularly.
