About
USA Surfing Youth Surf Programs are part of USA Surfing’s work with emerging surf athletes who are moving through local contests and aiming to advance through the ranks. The programs operate under USA Surfing, which is the official ISA-recognized national federation for the sport of surfing in the United States. USA Surfing is responsible for holding the USA Surfing Championships event each year and for selecting the official USA Surf Team to compete internationally at ISA Championships and Pan American Games.

USA Surfing states that its mission is to stoke the sport of surfing by stewarding its growth, empowering future generations of champions, and showcasing the transformative power of surfing on the Olympic stage. USA Surfing is recognized by the International Surfing Association (ISA), which is recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as the world governing authority for surfing, para surfing, stand up paddling, prone paddling, bodyboarding, and surfriding. As the exclusively ISA-recognized governing body for surfing in the United States, USA Surfing must provide equal opportunity to amateur athletes, coaches, trainers, managers, administrators, and officials to participate in amateur athletic competition without discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, age, or national origin, as required by the Act. USA Surfing is proud to have Oceanside as an official training ground, helping to prepare the next generation of American surf talent.
USA Surfing describes itself as the bridge between emerging talent and the professional ranks, providing upgraded competitive experiences that prepare surfers for higher levels of global competition. Its role includes diversifying, expanding, and strengthening a professional network of judges, coaches, certified surf schools, and gyms. There are currently five member organizations that feed their top athletes into USA Surfing’s USA Championships: the Western Surfing Association, the National Scholastic Surfing Association, the Hawaiian Surfing Association, the Eastern Surfing Association, and the Texas Gulf Surfing Association.
USA Surfing states that it is committed to creating a safe, fun, and healthy environment for all participants, including providing educational materials, training, and other resources for athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, staff members, and parents. Although it is not under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Center for SafeSport, USA Surfing incorporates the training and athlete safety programs of the Center. USA Surfing is an IRS-recognized 501(c)(3) charitable organization, and all donations made to USA Surfing are tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.
