About
San Diego Ballet School offers classes in Ballet, Theatre/Tap, Jazz, Tap, Pre-Ballet, Introductory ballet, Ballet Technique, Pointe, Variations, Character, and PBT – Progressing Ballet Technique. The school also offers Adult Beginner Ballet, Adult Intermediate Ballet, Summer Dance Camp, Children Summer Classes, company rehearsal, and a Student Concert. PBT – Progressing Ballet Technique is a body conditioning and strengthening program that focuses on training the muscle memory required in each exercise in all forms of dance.
• Ages: 3–18 years old
• Schedule: School-year classes run from early September through mid-June, with class options on weekdays and Saturdays and a three-week Summer Dance Camp in July for ages 8 and over.
San Diego Ballet School is led by School Director Karen Foster and Artistic Director Javier Velasco. The mission of the San Diego Ballet is to excite, enrich, and entertain its diverse audience through an imaginative presentation of quality classical and contemporary dance. San Diego Ballet collaborates with the San Diego Museum of Art as part of the museum’s Centennial Celebration. Private classes and coaching are not recommended for students under 13 years old and are stated to not conflict with regular classes. Each student is individually evaluated to determine when it is time to wear pointe shoes, and for students ages 7 to 18, families are instructed to email School Director Karen Foster to set up an assessment for level placement. Recommended classes for each level are determined once a year.
