About
Classics 4 Kids Music Education Programs offers live music education programs for elementary students through professional orchestra concerts, educational concerts, in-school assemblies, residencies, and virtual programs. The programs connect science, literacy, math, and cultural arts topics to align with CA Arts Standards and incorporate social-emotional learning. Conductor Dana Zimbric and the Classics Philharmonic Orchestra lead a music curriculum that integrates STEAM, cultural diversity, and language arts, with guests from partner organizations adding scientific knowledge, bilingual narration, and dance performances.

Classics 4 Kids was founded in 1994 and is a 501c3 organization. It provides critical music education for TK through 6th-grade students, with local and virtual programs reaching over 40,000 students, teachers, and families across hundreds of schools. Over 72% of students served represent under-resourced elementary schools, and the program prioritizes serving Title I schools. Each season, it offers about 100 free bus scholarships and thousands of ticket subsidies, enabling up to 7,000 students from under-resourced and under-represented schools to attend concerts. The organization showcases diverse music and artists so that students see themselves reflected on stage and strengthens partnerships with schools, foundations, and non-profits to expand programming reach.
The leadership team includes Kiran Shelat, Executive Director; Dana Zimbric, Artistic Director and Conductor; Corrine Huber, Program Manager; and Kelly Makley, Development Manager. One teacher from an under-resourced San Diego County school shared that their students felt represented, valued, and seen when other cultures were represented. Another teacher from an under-resourced San Diego County school noted that many students had never been exposed to live music and that Classics 4 Kids’ offer to cover transportation expenses and tickets at a reduced price opened doors to experiences that would not be possible without such support.
