About
JA Summer Camps offers hands-on educational activities where campers explore business, careers, and how to be a contributing member of their community. Campers take part in team-building games, discover unique personality traits, explore employment soft skills, build a resume, and create a business plan, product model, and presentation. Depending on the specific camp, activities include going to work at one of 21 businesses in The McGrath Family JA BizTown, participating in a life simulation to manage a budget for a virtual family, and stepping into the role of a business CEO in a simulation-based learning experience.
Campers may complete skills and personality assessments, complete applications, interview for jobs, present a business proposal, and explore careers and money management through hands-on, team-building activities. Additional activities include discovering career interests through guided self-exploration, gaining work experience with mock and professional in-person interviews, taking part in a budgeting simulation, creating a vision board of their future, learning about investments, and receiving an introduction to entrepreneurship. Campers also create a business model, take part in resume building and career interest assessments and exploration, learn about credit, loans, and interest, pitch a new business idea to real “sharks,” participate in the Mission Fed JA Finance Park life simulation, and join the JA Titan Business Competition and play to analyze outcomes and develop business strategies through research and innovative thinking.
