About
Kids and Youth Martial Arts (Karate, Judo & Brazilian Jiu Jitsu) includes training in Karate, Judo, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, kickboxing, and small group fitness. Classes focus on martial arts and fitness, and all training sessions are supervised by experienced coaches. Proper protective gear is provided for sparring and drills, and all necessary equipment like gloves and pads is provided.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Schedule: Classes are available every day.
All instructors undergo local and FBI background checks for student safety. Instructors are highly trained and certified as instructors in various disciplines of martial arts and have extensive experience in both training and competition. The program includes a structured curriculum for progression and advancement, and all lead instructors review the progress of each student on a monthly basis. Kids and youth martial arts are offered for ages 5–12, and the minimum age requirement is typically 5 years old, with private assessment offered to 4-year-olds upon request. Students are regularly organized to participate in tournaments, and all upcoming events are listed in the facility. The program puts an emphasis on self-defense while acknowledging the fun and benefit of competition, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu emphasizes controlling others by use of leverage, discomfort, and pressure to avoid the need for striking. The facility nurtures a positive community where members encourage and motivate each other, with a focus on character development and sportsmanship, including values of respect, discipline, and perseverance. The mission of the program is to empower individuals to reach their full potential physically, mentally, and emotionally, and to instill confidence, discipline, and resilience through comprehensive training programs and support. The community is described as trusted and loved by hundreds of San Diego residents.
Getting started includes scheduling a free visit, taking an introductory lesson with a review of program options, and then either enrolling immediately or purchasing a trial package. For a free visit or first session, participants are asked to bring athletic or comfortable workout clothing and a water bottle, and the gym provides all necessary equipment like gloves and pads. The leadership team includes Eric Romo (Owner/Instructor), Nate Church (Founder/Head Instructor), Will Cangiano (Professor), Sohpia Nordeno (Professor in BJJ, 3rd Degree 2015), and Branden Guptill.
