Legion San Diego Kids Jiu-Jitsu Program offers jiu-jitsu and other martial arts classes for children. The program is part of a larger academy that includes gi and no-gi classes and a structured beginner course.
• Ages: 4–14 years old
• Schedule: Classes seven days a week; 5-week beginner course with a 10-class curriculum, and a new course starting every 2 to 4 weeks
The program is led by a team that includes Founder Keenan Cornelius, a 3rd degree black belt, multiple-time world champion, and inventor of the lapel guard; Beginner Course Director Miha Perhavec, a judo and jiu-jitsu black belt, best-selling author, and Legion co-founder; and No-Gi Instructor Sloan Clymer, who is Keenan’s 2nd black belt, an active pro MMA fighter, and a pro jiu-jitsu competitor. Legion has over 175 kids training, from ages 4 to 14, and runs its kids program on an age-appropriate, game-based curriculum with a focus on safety, respect, self-control, and anti-bullying skills. Instruction is tailored to each student’s experience level, and kids learn from world-renowned coaches in what is described as the most reviewed 5-star jiu-jitsu facility in the world.
Legion pioneered the 5-Week Beginner Course, which uses a 10-class “Secret Sauce Curriculum” that organizes essential jiu-jitsu techniques so concepts build on each other. Every course member receives a free Legion uniform, lifetime access to class recordings, and access to the in-house gym area, and beginners at Legion get a free premium uniform. The program does not use membership contracts, and new families receive a free trial class and a free intro class with one of the most experienced instructors.
