About

San Diego Children's Choir focuses on music education through rehearsals that include singing, movement, improvisation, and performance opportunities. Choristers work on music literacy, healthy vocal technique, pitch matching, rhythm sight-reading, sight reading music, identifying structural elements in music, working well as a group, and head-voice singing. Rehearsal activities draw from the Orff and Kodaly methods, and collaborative professional musicians accompany rehearsals and performances.

• Ages: 1–18 years old

Founded in 1990, San Diego Children's Choir is the area's oldest and largest choral training program serving children ages 1–18 at locations throughout San Diego County. Music literacy is taught at every level, and choristers gain leadership skills, including formal leadership roles at older levels. The San Diego Children’s Choir states that it provides children with music education and performance opportunities that foster performance excellence and collaboration at the highest artistic level, nurturing individual development and creating a foundation for lifelong success, and that it enriches the cultural fabric of San Diego County through the transformative power of music. Over 70% of underserved children in its programs receive donor-funded free music education. In parent surveys, instructors have been described as “absolutely amazing” and “gifted.” The San Diego Children’s Choir is proud to celebrate 35 years of bringing music education access across San Diego.
