About

SD United Training Center offers gymnastics, dance, parkour, ninja, preschool, pre-recreational, tumbling, competitive programs, adult open gyms, aerial classes, a parkour training class, breakdancing instruction, and slackline. The program includes access to an in-ground foam pit and uses streaming, not recording, cameras in the gym.

San Diego UNITED Training Center first opened its doors on May 1st, 2010. The leadership team includes Joe Gram, owner and operator of SD United Training Center, and his brother, Danny Gram, co-owner and entrepreneur in San Diego who opened the center with him.

Joe Gram graduated from UC San Diego with a major in Biology – Neuroscience, studied American Kenpo growing up, and is an Ed Parker blackbelt. His first job in high school was coaching at California Sports Center for Dave Peterson, he was a coxswain for a top 25 NCAA Men’s Rowing Team during college, and after college he worked for the regional non-profit CONNECT for two years and taught himself web design. Danny Gram started training in gymnastics at 4 years old at California Sports Center in San Jose, California, trained under world champion JinJing Zhang from China, attended the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University where he studied Sports Marketing and Management, and has led boys’ teams to State Team Championship titles and developed numerous gymnasts to the collegiate and national level.

The center states that it believes sport is an integral part of a child’s physical, social, and intellectual development, that it believes in sport competition, in victory and in the growth and perseverance learned in defeat, and that it believes in family, sweat, hard work, sacrifice, and toiling in the trenches. It also states that it believes sport is as much an intellectual endeavor as a physical one and that it believes in staying young in heart and in health.

San Diego UNITED Training Center describes having San Diego’s Best Parent Viewing Area, with a second story viewing area over the entire gym and streaming, not recording, cameras. The program notes that it is one of the few places in San Diego to have an in-ground foam pit and that families can try a first fun-filled class at no cost. The center offers adult open gyms as one of its unique features.

San Diego UNITED Training Center states that it aims to inspire an active lifestyle within the community, and the owner states that he considers himself lucky to share his passion for movement sports with the community of San Diego and thanks family, friends, and numerous mentors for their support.

Parent and participant comments include descriptions of the center as a welcoming, kind, fun place to be with world class coaches for all ages, and one person shared that they called it home for over 10 years and recommend it to others. Another parent described a 7-year-old’s parkour birthday party where all of the kids were engaged, enthusiastic, and had a blast. One reviewer noted that at this gym participants can learn many gymnastics-related skills, including breakdancing instruction and slackline. Another person stated that coaches are amazing, adult open gyms are fun and diverse, their two kids love their classes and are progressing quickly, and that aerial classes are great, also noting the in-ground foam pit. A participant described having a fun time at a first parkour training class and said the class is fun for kids of all ages and adults. Another comment described SD United Training Center as an awesome training center with awesome coaches and an awesome time.
