The gym features what it describes as San Diego's Best Parent Viewing Area, with a second story viewing area over the entire gym and streaming (not recording) cameras. Owner Joe Gram graduated from UC San Diego with a major in Biology – Neuroscience, studied American Kenpo, and is an Ed Parker blackbelt. His background includes coaching at California Sports Center for Dave Peterson and serving as a coxswain for a top 25 NCAA men’s rowing team, and he owns and operates SD United Training Center with his brother. The program’s mission statement emphasizes sport as part of a child’s physical, social, and intellectual development, the role of sport competition, the importance of family, hard work, and viewing sport as both an intellectual and physical endeavor, as well as staying young in heart and health.
The owner previously worked for the regional non-profit CONNECT, where he learned about entrepreneurship from people in and around San Diego, and the program lists goals to build working partnerships with regional active lifestyle groups such as aerial, cheer, dance, yoga, and martial arts, and to serve as a crossroads for the active lifestyle community. Parent and participant testimonials describe the coaches as world class for all ages, mention long-term involvement of over 10 years, and highlight experiences with parkour birthday parties, adult open gyms, aerial classes, breakdancing instruction, slackline, and parkour training classes for kids and adults. Multiple reviewers mention having an awesome time, calling it a fun place to train and learn, and note that it is one of the few places in San Diego with an in-ground foam pit.
