About
Summer Art Camp includes hands-on art projects where campers paint, draw, and craft flowers, plants, garden creatures, and colorful critters. The program includes activities such as mixing colors, building sculptures, crafting inventive masterpieces, and creating playful moving artworks that blend art with simple science and technology. Campers also create stellar masterpieces inspired by planets, stars, and galaxies, explore drawing with traditional techniques and experimental materials using ink, graphite, collage, and creative tools, and paint, sculpt, and create colorful dinosaur art, fossils, dino eggs, volcano art, and outdoor scenes with animals and plants.

• Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9 AM–2 PM, offered in a one-of-a-kind week of project-based camps, with optional aftercare from 2–3 PM
Summer Art Camp is part of ICA San Diego’s Summer Art Camp. The program is described as a summer art camp designed to promote mental health and inspire creativity, where young artists explore art making with a variety of supplies and expand art making techniques. Campers develop critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities under the guidance of a teaching artist, and each week concludes with a weekly student art exhibition. Need-based scholarships for Summer Art Camp and the summer teen portfolio intensive are available. ICA Family Memberships and above save 10% with code ICAFAMILYMEMBER, and purchasing 2 or more camps with code MULTICAMP saves an additional 5% on each, and these discounts can be combined. Gift cards are available and are good for art and ceramics classes and camps.
Summer Art Camps at ICA San Diego / Central in Balboa Park include access to partner museums and time outdoors enjoying the park. Summer Art Camp at ICA North in Encinitas includes access to a 6-acre property including a garden and Sculpture Trail hikes. Admission to exhibitions and events at Central (Balboa Park) and North (Encinitas) is always complimentary. Summer Art Camps at ICA San Diego / Central in Balboa Park are part of broader community involvement that includes access to partner museums, outreach programs that guide students through exhibitions, outreach programs that bring art directly to students and seniors, and school group tours and the Valise Program that bring art into classrooms across San Diego County.
The Institute of Contemporary Art, San Diego states that it is a living laboratory for the transformational power of art to build vibrant communities. The organization’s leadership and staff include Executive Director Andrew Utt and Director of Learning & Engagement Katerina Vo, along with a team that includes roles such as Director of Operations, Visitor Experience staff, Curator, Exhibitions Manager, Advancement Manager, Marketing Manager, Special Events Manager, Event Production, Membership & Data Coordinator, Executive Assistant, Ceramics Program Manager, and Ceramics Lab Technicians. The Board of Directors includes a Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, Board members, and a Chair Emerita.
