Summer Learn to Row Camp introduces athletes to rowing through learn to row camps that include rowing on rowing machines, rowing in single person boats, and rowing in larger team boats with 4 or 8 rowers. After completing a learn to row camp, athletes can attend an Intermediate Camp to build on rowing skills and practice more in 4 and 8 person boats.
• Ages: 11–17 years old
• Schedule: Each camp runs Monday–Friday from 9:00–11:00 am in one-week sessions.
• Price: The cost is $250 per session.
Camps are open to athletes in 6th–12th grade for the Fall 2024 school year, and each session is divided by grade level. There is a 6th–8th grade group and an 8th–12th grade group, the younger group moves at a slower pace, and 8th graders can choose either group. The 2026 Summer Learn to Row Camp schedule includes Session 1 (June 22–26), Session 2 (July 6–10), Session 3 (July 13–17), Session 4 (July 20–24), Session 5 (July 27–31), and Session 6 (August 3–7).
The program is part of the San Diego Rowing Club Juniors program, which is described as the leading rowing program for high school and middle school boys and girls from across San Diego County. The Program Director is Patrick Kington. The mission of the program is to support and encourage rowing for youth in San Diego by providing young men and women the facilities, equipment, and coaching necessary to give them the opportunity to learn the sport of rowing in a safe and fun environment. The program states goals that include providing coaching and training in the fundamentals and techniques of rowing, developing a sense of shared purpose and teamwork, offering a competitive program that can put members in good standing to compete in a collegiate rowing program, and supplying physical training to support the development of each athlete while they learn an activity they can continue for a lifetime.
