YMCA of San Diego County Camps offers a wide range of activities that include surfing, STEM projects, cooking, ceramics, slime activities, sports, horseback riding, and swimming. The program includes day camps and overnight camps that feature these different types of hands-on and recreational experiences.
The YMCA of San Diego County was established in 1882. The organization’s mission statement is: “We nurture a healthy spirit, mind, and body so all can thrive while honoring our faith-based heritage.” Its leadership team includes President & Chief Executive Officer Todd Tibbits, Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer Cesar Silva, Executive Vice President & Chief Financial Officer Jonathan Hall, and Executive Vice President & Chief Mission Advancement Officer Shelly McTighe-Rippingale, along with several vice presidents overseeing areas such as social impact, information, legal and resources, community bridging and engagement, membership and belonging, human resources, policy and advocacy, development, social services for youth and family services, compliance and ethics, and operations. The YMCA of San Diego County focuses on community well-being and belonging and works on place-based, person-centered, community-responsive solutions that address social determinants of health using an evidence-based, measured approach. One camper shared, “I owe everything to camp! Camp gave me the confidence, the feeling of self-worth and the greatest friends I could have ever asked for! It completely banished the awkward, self-doubting, anxious person I was and made me into someone I am truly proud to be.”
