About
Enrichment Programs In Communities (EPIC Enrichment) offers a range of hands-on classes, including Code Crafters (CC), EPIC Engineers (EE), Kinetic Adventures (KA), Reaction Time (RT), Rocket Racers (RR), EPIC Math (EM), Mini Medics (MM), Aqua Splash (AS), Creative Studio (CS), Graphic Design (GD), Illustration Station (IS), Spanish Explorers (SPEX), and Cluefinders (CF). Each class focuses on a specific theme, such as science, health, math, art, Spanish, and problem-solving activities. Each class is 1 hour long and runs in multi-week sessions at designated sites.
• Ages: 5–12 years old
• Schedule: Each class is 1 hour long and runs for 6–7 weeks at designated sites.
Since 2005, the EPIC Enrichment team has been made up of specialized instructors who share their talents and knowledge with elementary students throughout the community. The leadership team includes Christine Bassett (Signing Coordinator), Laurynn Handsome (Office Manager), and Program Coordinators Carrie Tarsom and Jacqueline Lew. All staff members are described as energetic individuals with a passion for teaching, and staff is limited to trained professionals with classroom experience and community service members of exemplary character. Employees are TB tested and fingerprinted upon hire, and after passing both the TB test and Live Scan, new employees complete a 10-hour training session covering program curriculum, classroom management, emergency safety, and program rules and regulations, followed by fifteen hours of on-site training under lead instructors. All team members have previous experience working with children.
The organization states that its goal is to create a safe, fun, and exciting environment for kids and to expose them to different aspects of various career opportunities, including art, Spanish, science, health, cartooning, team building, and health science, with the aim of planting a seed for future growth and development in these areas. Programs are established to provide students with interactive instruction while building mental discipline and encouraging students to develop greater cognitive flexibility, and all after-school programs are hands-on and focus on enrichment. Programs meet national and state extracurricular activity standards, are led only by trained, qualified, and dynamic instructors, and follow professional, proven lesson plans that use unique equipment and original materials suited for children in kindergarten through 6th grade. Registration forms for any program must be turned in to the school office before the program start date, and for same-day registration, parents or guardians are instructed to contact the EPIC office.
The organization is described as a non-profit that is always giving back, and all profits and proceeds go back to the community so it can offer programs to more students in surrounding communities and in lower socioeconomic areas. Staff members are described as individuals who want to give back to the community by using their skills to support education and enrichment for elementary students. For safety, staff members do not leave until students are picked up by a legal guardian or parent, and the organization reserves the right to charge $10 for every 15 minutes a responsible party is late for pickup. An EPIC staff member is responsible for picking up kindergarten students from their classrooms if registration is completed over the phone or turned in a week in advance.
