About

McKinley Children’s Center Programs offers trauma-informed care, education, mental health, and family services, along with foster care and adoption services. The program includes short-term residential therapeutic programs for children, an unaccompanied children’s shelter, educational services through Canyon View and Desert View Schools, and family resource centers. Its non-public schools provide special education services in conjunction with local school districts, and the M-Certified Training Center offers professional training programs that support the wider community and workforce.

Founded in 1900 as the Industrial Home Society on a 33-acre estate in Artesia, California, McKinley was originally created as a sanctuary for orphaned, abused, and homeless children and was later renamed the McKinley Home for Boys in honor of President William McKinley. McKinley celebrates its 125th anniversary in 2025 and is led by CEO Anil Vadaparty and McKinley Chairman Chuck Coyne. McKinley is a nonprofit organization with accredited programs and schools and is recognized for excellence through its accreditations and affiliations. Its mission states that it is dedicated to compassionately transforming the lives of youth and families through innovative education, counseling, and social services, guided by its HUMAN principles: Hopeful, Understanding, Moral, Awesome, and Nurturing. McKinley serves children, youth, and families across Southern California counties, including Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino, and Orange Counties, in partnership with local families, school districts, and social service agencies, and community members participate through volunteering.
