Alliance Française de San Francisco – Kids and Teens French Programs is part of the oldest Alliance Française chapter in the United States and has been serving the San Francisco Bay Area community since 1889. The organization’s mission is to promote the knowledge and appreciation of the French language and Francophone cultures. Classes are taught by experienced teachers who are native speakers, and class sizes range between 4–12 students. The organization offers a complete pedagogical program for all classes, along with a dedicated online exercise platform tailored to help students practice efficiently for textbook classes and exam preparation. It is the official exam center for DELF/DALF, TCF, and DFP for Northern California and provides an exam center to certify French proficiency with an official diploma.
The program is part of a cultural center that hosts one to two regular events each week, including Café Conversation, Movie night, Art night, and Language exchange, as well as additional events with community partners every month. It also offers a wide range of classes and individual instruction in French, both online and off-site, from absolute beginners to advanced level. Families can visit the new Musée d'Histoire de la Communauté Francophone, which opened in 2024 and offers free entrance with reservation, and access the oldest French library in the Bay Area, which holds the largest collection of French books west of the Mississippi and is open to the public. Alliance Française is an American nonprofit public charity, tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, and is incorporated in the State of California as a not-for-profit organization.
