About
Before & After School Programs are part of the YMCA of Greater San Francisco’s youth-centered offerings. The YMCA of Greater San Francisco describes these Before and After School Programs as safe spaces for students to learn and grow when not in school. The programs foster each child’s cognitive, social-emotional, and physical development through opportunities and experiences that focus on achievement, relationship-building, and belonging.
• Ages: 5–13 years old
For more than 170 years, the YMCA of Greater San Francisco has stood with individuals and families to help them thrive, having been established during the Gold Rush in 1853. Its mission is to empower each person’s journey and strengthen the foundations of community. The YMCA of Greater San Francisco describes itself as a trusted youth-centered organization with decades of experience and a cause-driven culture focused on strengthening community. It supports the full journey of well-being by addressing physical health, mental wellness, social connection, and economic opportunity, and each neighborhood Y shapes programs and services based on input from community members.
The YMCA of Greater San Francisco is a 501(c)3 charitable community organization that serves more than 130,000 people through 15 neighborhood branches, more than 130 program sites, and one residential camp across Marin, San Francisco, and San Mateo Counties. Each staff member and volunteer is described as making a difference in the lives of those served every day. One testimonial from a team member states that the Y is a welcoming place for the community and that this person enjoys working there and hearing how the Y has played a role in the lives of people they meet at work and in the community.
Employee Resource Groups are available for YMCA of Greater San Francisco staff, including the African American Resource Network, Asian Pacific Islander Leadership Network, LGBTQ Employee Resource Group, Latinx Employee Resource Group, and Women’s Leadership Network.
