• Ages: 5–14 years old

The YMCA of Greater San Francisco has been in existence for more than 170 years and was established during the Gold Rush in 1853. The YMCA of Greater San Francisco describes itself as more than a gym or a place to go, but a place to grow. It describes its culture as cause-driven, meaning staff thinking, actions, and communication are directed toward strengthening community. The YMCA of Greater San Francisco is a 501(c)3 charitable community organization that serves more than 130,000 people through 15 neighborhood branches, more than 130 program sites, and one residential camp across Marin, San Francisco, and San Mateo Counties. Its mission is to empower each person’s journey and strengthen the foundations of community. A staff member described the Y as a welcoming place for the community and noted enjoying working there and hearing how the Y has played a role in the lives of people at work and in the community.
