CANVAS Dance Arts was formed in 2021 by co-founders Ms Simone (Simone van der Meer) and Miss Angela (Angela Yuen Uyeda), whose paths first crossed in July 2015. Simone van der Meer has been teaching dance and movement in the Bay Area for over 10 years and has staged and costumed multiple productions for dancers of all ages. Angela Yuen Uyeda is a San Francisco native who teaches students of all ages, from toddlers to teens to seniors, and has taught in studios and in public and private schools, as well as private lessons and groups of 50 or more. The mission of CANVAS Dance Arts is “to provide an inclusive, positive environment that helps students grow and develop a passion for the performing arts.”
CANVAS Dance Arts offers mini sessions, full sessions, summer camps, and community events, including CDA Cinema Night for ages 5 and up as a drop-off event. Summer Camp 2026 consists of week-long camps that emphasize dancers’ creations, fitness and conditioning, and choreography, with two camp groups for Rising Grades K–2 and Rising Grades 3–5, and a final video created for additional memories from camp. The program provides DANCEwear for class and stage with sizing kits for shoes, leotards, and pants, with items available for online purchase and shipping, and CDA Logo Apparel with a sparkle logo available on-site with a discount when purchasing two or more of the same item. Currently enrolled students receive priority registration for the following session. CANVAS Dance Arts describes its philosophy as “Artistry in Community, Community in Artistry” and serves its community as an outlet for individual artistry and collaboration on creative projects, as well as a community for dancers and their families to create, connect, and explore.
