About

The San Francisco Sabercats Youth Hockey Program offers ice hockey, skating, and combined skating and hockey instruction. The program includes A and B level competitive youth hockey, in-house youth hockey, cross-ice and small area games, and ISI group skating classes.

• Ages: 3–18 years old
• Schedule: A & B travel hockey runs mid August through mid March with practices 2–3 times per week and games 1–2 times per week, with tryouts in June; in-house youth hockey practices run year-round with practices twice a week on weekends; the 2026 Spring Player Development Program runs from Tuesday, April 7 through Thursday, June 11; the 2025 Sabercats Summer Session runs from Tuesday, June 24 through Wednesday, August 20
• Price: Spring PDP costs $675 per player, with discounts for goalies and siblings

The program provides teams at various skill and age levels, including in-house, Mite (8U), Squirt (10U), PeeWee (12U), Bantam (14U), and High School (19U). The skating school offers skating and hockey instruction for players from 3 to 17 years of age, and ISI group classes emphasize skating. Participants enrolled in any ISI Hockey Class are eligible to skate a free public session on the day of their class, receive a 10% discount on all merchandise in the Yerba Buena Pro Shop, and receive two free guest passes for friends or family.

Coaches in the San Francisco Sabercats Youth Hockey Program are experienced, USA Hockey certified instructors, and teams are trained in age-appropriate skill development with USA Hockey American Development Model (ADM) instruction. The program participates in A and B level competition throughout Northern California through the USA Hockey sanctioned Northern California Junior Hockey Association (NorCal). The Sabercats state that they are dedicated to the development of young athletes through ice hockey, with a goal of teaching athletes to master the challenge of ice hockey while developing confidence, character, and good sportsmanship in a safe and fun environment.

All proceeds benefit the San Francisco Youth Hockey Association and the SF Sabercats Scholarship Fund, which awarded over $21,000 to families in one season, and families are encouraged to be actively involved in supporting the program. For travel and in-house programs, participants must have a current USA Hockey membership, a copy of a U.S. birth certificate or U.S. visa, and a full set of ice hockey gear including skates, helmet with cage, mouth guard, neck guard, stick, gloves, shin, elbow, and shoulder pads, hockey pants, hockey socks, jersey, athletic support cup, and a hockey bag.
