About

The San Francisco Sabercats Youth Hockey Program offers ice hockey, in-house youth hockey, A and B level competitive youth hockey, skating instruction, hockey instruction, and ISI group skating classes. The skating school provides skating and hockey instruction for players from 3 to 17 years of age, and teams are organized at various skill and age levels, including In-house, Mite (8U), Squirt (10U), PeeWee (12U), Bantam (14U), and High School (19U). The SF Sabercats Spring Player Development Program (PDP) focuses on skill development and competitive intensity.

• Ages: 3–18 years old
• Schedule: A & B travel hockey runs a NorCal season from mid August through mid March with tryouts in June, practices 2–3 times per week, and games once or twice a week; in-house youth hockey practices year-round with open enrollment and drop-in options and practices twice a week on weekends; the 2026 Spring Player Development Program (PDP) runs from Tuesday, April 7 through Thursday, June 11

Coaches in the San Francisco Sabercats Youth Hockey Program are experienced, USA Hockey certified instructors and provide USA Hockey ADM instruction. The program is based on USA Hockey’s American Development Model with cross-ice and small area games and participates in A and B level competition throughout Northern California through the USA Hockey sanctioned Northern California Junior Hockey Association (NorCal). Participants in ISI Hockey Class are eligible to skate a free public session on the day of their class, receive a 10% discount on all merchandise in the Yerba Buena Pro Shop, and receive two free guest passes for friends or family.

The stated mission of the San Francisco Sabercats Youth Hockey Program is to develop young athletes through the sport of ice hockey, with a goal of teaching young athletes to master the challenge of ice hockey while developing confidence, character, and good sportsmanship in a safe and fun environment. The program holds annual fundraisers, including a Halloween Fundraiser and an annual fundraiser event, and all proceeds from certain fundraisers benefit the San Francisco Youth Hockey Association and the SF Sabercats Scholarship Fund or Sabercat Scholarship Fund. The Sabercat Scholarship Fund awarded over $21,000 to families in one season, and families are encouraged to be actively involved in the support of the program, with JOLT listed as a sponsor of the SF Sabercats.

For travel and in-house programs, required items include a current USA Hockey membership, a copy of a US birth certificate or US visa, and a full set of ice hockey gear, including skates, helmet with cage, mouth guard, neck guard, stick, gloves, shin, elbow, and shoulder pads, hockey pants, hockey socks, jersey, athletic support cup, and a hockey bag.
