About

San Francisco Arts Education Project Programs offers children the chance to paint, draw, collage, sculpt, weave, stitch, drum, dance, act, sing, and explore fashion design. The program includes visual arts, drama, musical theater, world rhythms, choral expression, painting, drawing, and singing as part of its activities.

• Ages: 6–14 years old

Founded in 1968, the San Francisco Arts Education Project has stayed true to its mission for more than fifty years. Its mission is to enrich the lives of children by facilitating hands-on participation in the visual and performing arts taught by practicing artists. Over the years, it has offered more than 300,000 public school students a chance to participate in the arts and is known for its legendary summer camps, where nearly twenty percent of campers receive scholarship assistance. The organization supports artist residencies at about twenty public schools and at after-school programs, and it holds workshops and exhibits student work at the Minnesota Street Project. The SFArtsED Players musical theater troupe offers a rigorous after-school and weekend training program for serious young performers ages 9–14, culminating in a fully realized production every spring at the Presidio Theatre. Artists, singers, and dancers at the high school and college levels take part in internships and mentor opportunities at the summer camps and in school programs. The leadership team includes Executive Director Chad S. Jones, Artistic Director Emily Keeler, Program Director Mia Waller, Administrative Coordinator Tiersa Nureyev, Administrative Assistant & Summer Registrar Kathryn Aarons, Accounts & Business Manager Laura Bloch, Curator & Digital Media Producer Pete Belkin, and Glen Park After School Site Coordinator Susan Tramontana. One parent, Joel Selvin, describes SFArtsED as giving children a vastly increased sense of self-esteem and first-hand experience with success. Early Bird Registration is open for these programs.
