About

SFCM Pre-College and Summer Programs are part of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, which prepares artists through conservatory education, professional experiences, and a culture of creativity rooted in San Francisco. The programs take place within an institution that states that music is essential to life and that education is the best promise for tomorrow.

The San Francisco Conservatory of Music was founded in 1917. Its mission states a commitment to providing an extraordinary education that prepares graduates to pursue fully engaged lives as citizens of the world.

The leadership team connected with SFCM Pre-College and Summer Programs includes Keelin Davis, Associate Dean & Executive Director, Pre-College and Continuing Education; Laura Reynolds, Associate Director, Pre-College & Summer Programs; Jenny Ma, Pre-College Coordinator; and Jessica Serrano, Program Associate, Pre-College and Continuing Education. The broader institutional leadership includes President David H. Stull and Provost Jonas Wright.

SFCM is the only music school that leads an alliance combining a music education institution with a label, two artist management companies, and their clients. Its facilities include cutting-edge acoustics, performance halls, and state-of-the-art technology. At the Bowes Center, 90% of concerts are free and open to the public.

SFCM is located in San Francisco’s performing arts district, surrounded by the Symphony, Opera, Ballet, SFJAZZ, and a community of artists, technologists, and entrepreneurs. Classical California Radio station KDFC is hosted inside the Bowes Center. Most principal players of the San Francisco Symphony are on SFCM faculty. Numerous faculty and alumni are involved with the opera through programs like the Merola Opera Program and Adler Fellowship, and many faculty are part of the San Francisco Ballet orchestra. Students from SF Ballet School also live in the Bowes Center. There is extensive overlap between SFCM faculty and SFJAZZ Collective members, along with side-by-side performance opportunities.

SFCM alumni and graduates have received notable recognition, including GRAMMY Award winner Teddy Abrams and 2018 Composition graduate Taylor Joshua Rankin, who was awarded a MacDowell fellowship in 2025.
