About
Youth Services includes a wide range of activities such as social groups, developmental social groups, arts and crafts, expressive arts, drama, dance, swimming, swim lessons, therapeutic swim classes, recreational and therapeutic sports, indoor and outdoor therapeutic recreation activities, cooking classes, life skills classes, soft skills classes, individualized independent living skill activities, enrichment classes, health and wellness activities, sensory integrative activities, socialization opportunities, and time in an adaptive computer lab and computer lab. The program also offers community outings and accredited vocational training services as part of its schedule of activities.
⢠Schedule: After-school options MondayâFriday during the school year, Saturday programming, and summer day camps with afternoon and limited morning options
⢠Price: If families choose to pay privately, Pomeroy Summer Camp (12pmâ6pm) costs $100 per day, and the Morning Program (8:30amâ12pm) is $75 per day.
Children and Teens Staff have an average of more than three years of experience working exclusively with children, teens, and adults with disabilities, and all lead teachers have a bachelorâs degree in Early Childhood Education, Psychology, Kinesiology, or Art and Design. The program uses a Person-Centered Thinking approach in its programming and operates six days a week and 290 days a year. Children get picked up from school by bus, and full scholarships are available for the afternoon program from the California Department of Social Services (CDSS), with GGRC respite hours usable for all program hours, and almost all participants attend at no daily out-of-pocket cost. The mission of Pomeroy Recreation & Rehabilitation Center is to provide recreational, vocational, and educational opportunities for people with disabilities through programs and services that encourage self-expression, promote personal achievement, and lead to greater independence. The team partners with occupational therapists, speech-language pathology clinics, and behavioral consultants to offer an individual and adaptive curriculum, and volunteers and interns offer additional support throughout the year. Completion of an intake, enrollment paperwork, and a $25 deposit is required to enroll, and enrollment paperwork includes a current IEP, Physicianâs Medical Form, Emergency Form, Intake Form, Licensing Forms, and Application for Service, with families responsible for any fees not covered by GGRC, DCYF, or the California Department of Education Scholarship.
