About
The Scandinavian School & Cultural Center is a full time Scandinavian language immersion preschool and Cultural Center. The program offers cultural classes, cultural events, cultural workshops, language classes, a Danish course for children, and adult language courses. It brings a background of Nordic languages and culture and combines the best of the US and Scandinavia while providing more than 20 cultural events and over 50 language classes each year for both children and adults.

The Scandinavian School & Cultural Center was founded in 2002, and in 2008 it began offering cultural workshops and language classes for all ages. It serves Bay Area residents at three locations and runs a full-time preschool language and cultural immersion program at its San Francisco location. Close to 300 students and community members come through its two Bay Area locations each week. The Preschool Programs Director is Mimmi Skoglund, the Admissions Director is Pia Eriksson, and the Cultural Center Director is Aliisa Lampinen. The school was created on the fundamental Scandinavian values of democracy, gender equality, progressive thought, global citizenship, experiential learning, empathy, sustainability, intrapreneurship, and inclusion. The Scandinavian School & Cultural Center describes itself as the first of its kind in the U.S. as a Scandinavian language and cultural immersion school and has a Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Antiracism Statement. The SSCC Board of Directors and leadership, together with a volunteer DEI committee, state that they are committed to making sure values of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Antiracism are visible and actively practiced in everything done at the SSCC, and the community welcomes those of Nordic and non-Nordic descent alike.
