About

Tinkering School gives kids real tools to solve real problems, using materials such as wood, metal, cardboard, and sometimes paint. Tinkerers work with one another and with the program’s staff to team-design and team-create projects. The program offers chances to tinker after school, during the summer, and on weekends.

Tinkering School was founded in 2005 and is celebrating 20 years of “think.make.tinker.” The program’s mission states that kids are more capable than they know, and that by learning through doing, they strive to make mistakes and learn from them, collaborate and make friends, and try harder than usual. Tinkering School is a project of the Institute for Applied Tinkering, a non-profit organization. It is led by founder Gever Tulley. Tinkering School is a trademark of Tinkering Unlimited and is registered in the US Patent and Trademark Office.
