About

African American Community Service Agency Youth Programs are offered through the African American Community Service Agency (AACSA). The programs are part of AACSA’s work built on three pillars: Education, Advocacy, and Community Building. Education programs at AACSA include the AACSA Leadership Academy (ALA), and youth can also take part in signature events such as the Annual Back to School program, the Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Luncheon, and the Annual Juneteenth Education and Celebration.

The African American Community Service Agency was established in 1978. Its mission is to preserve the dignity and culture of a diverse African American community and to provide services that promote the full participation of Santa Clara County and the general society. AACSA proudly serves as one of Silicon Valley’s few African American cultural hubs and welcomes members from all backgrounds, regardless of race, religion, age, or ability.

AACSA’s community involvement includes participation in Stronger Systems, Stronger Families - FIRST 5 Santa Clara County; the National Black Child Development Institute (NBCDI) Village; Blue Zones, City of San Jose; The Children and Youth Services Master Plan, City of San Jose; and Family Health Services.

Parents, volunteers, and community members have shared their experiences with AACSA. One parent, Colette Choates, described AACSA under the leadership of Milan as part of the “village” for her five children and noted that her children chose to stay involved even as college students. Volunteers and community members such as Erika Albury, Julinda LeDee, Erica Williams, Carol Dixon, and Gordon William have described long-term involvement with AACSA, including serving as board members, volunteering for multiple weeks, and taking part in community service and agency events.
