About
Harker Summer Programs are offered by The Harker School, a nonprofit K-12, coed, private school in Silicon Valley. The programs take place on expansive campuses that are specifically designed for lower, middle and upper school divisions, with outstanding facilities and leading-edge technology that support dynamic, experiential learning inside the classroom and outdoors. Students have access to robust programs and extracurricular activities that include global learning opportunities, competitive sports teams and varied student clubs.
The Harker School was founded in 1893 and celebrated its 125th anniversary in 2018. Its mission states that it celebrates a century-old history and tradition of developing lifelong learners, well-rounded global citizens and kind, respectful individuals. The school is described as one of the nation’s top college prep schools and has earned international recognition for its top academics, quality teachers and student achievements, and it is the largest independent K-12, coed, private school of its kind in California. Its students, teachers and facilities continue to earn awards and recognition for achievements. The school’s teachers are described as experienced and having a passion for their craft, with their goal being the child’s success. Harker is also described as an equal opportunity employer with a policy that prohibits unlawful discrimination based on a wide range of protected characteristics. Harker states that it strives to be a good neighbor in each of its campus communities and invites neighbors to contact the school with concerns, suggestions or questions. One alumnus, John Owen ’85, now a judge on the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, states that Harker remained the most significant professional and personal influence on him, and that it provided him with the study skills to succeed in school and the ethics and values to succeed in life.
