Kids Summer Art Camp
San José Museum of Art, 110 S Market St, San Jose, CA 95113
About
Kids Summer Art Camp includes behind-the-scenes access to exhibitions, interactive presentations by SJMA’s professional installation team, and hands-on experience curating a student art exhibition. Campers experiment with the artistic process through creative exploration of art materials and processes, exploring a variety of artistic media and techniques. The program includes in-depth art experiences inspired by current exhibitions, where campers learn how to look at art, talk about art, and create art, and they show off their own work in a student exhibition with a weekly exhibition reception for families, caregivers, and friends.
• Ages: 6–14 years old
• Schedule: Weekly camps, Monday–Friday, 9am–3pm
• Price: $500 per week. Museum members at the Family level or above: $50 discount. Camp fees include art materials and supplies.
Camps are led by experienced gallery teachers and studio art educators, and SJMA’s teaching artists offer in-depth art experiences inspired by current exhibitions. Each camper receives individual artistic support, encouragement, and creative challenges tailored to their learning style and skill level. Curriculum for ages 6–8 and 9–11 repeats weekly, while teen camps offer something new each week with unique projects and activities. Campers get exclusive behind-the-scenes access and learn how exhibitions come to life, including hands-on experience curating their own art exhibition.
To be eligible for scholarships, campers must reside within San José city limits and attend a Title I school. Scholarships cover full camp tuition, all art supplies, and a camp t-shirt. SJMA members at the Family level or above are eligible for a 10% discount on camp registration. SJMA provides all art materials needed to participate in the camps. The San José Museum of Art has the right to cancel the camp, in which case fees are 100% refundable, and registration is not transferable. Elevators are temporarily out of service, and access to upper and lower levels is via stairs only.
