• Ages: 3–18 years old

All instructors at San Jose Dance Theatre Academy are current or former professional dancers. The academy’s mission states that San Jose Dance Theatre promotes the positive impact of dance in Silicon Valley through accessible performances, excellent training, creative outreach, and collaboration across the arts, and that it values and maintains excellence in classical ballet and contemporary dance training in its academy, pre-professional programs, and professional ballet company. The organization is described as a classical ballet performance company and academy and is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Advanced dancers take on principal roles in productions and serve as role models within the academy, and eligible students may audition for SJDT’s Studio Company for additional performance opportunities. The program includes a robust Adult Open Program for all experience levels, and teen or adult drop-in classes are available at a per-class rate, with placement classes offered to dancers of all ages at various times during the week. Families are instructed to have dancers arrive on time and in the correct uniform with hair done and proper shoes, and to wear a cover-up when entering or exiting the building. The organization notes that it is proudly supported by community organizations. One parent testimonial shares that a student named Victoria participated in both productions during the year, achieved her goal of being a Cookie in The Nutcracker, made more friends, and plans to return and attend summer classes to continue improving.
