New Ballet was founded in 2016. The organization’s leadership includes Executive and Artistic Director and Founder Dalia Rawson, School Director Linh Mai Le, Principal Dr. Elizabeth Hutter, and Chief Operations Officer Laura Burton. New Ballet’s School is the only American Ballet Theatre Certified School on the West Coast and is one of only five schools nationwide designated as an American Ballet Theatre Certified School. New Ballet School features the American Ballet Theatre National Training Curriculum, and its certified teaching staff has decades of experience, with faculty who have danced professionally and understand first hand the elements required for an artist's development. Training at New Ballet School focuses on developmentally appropriate instruction and dancer health for each student, and dancers leave the institution to join professional companies internationally and to pursue higher degrees at universities.

The San Jose Nutcracker is presented with Symphony San Jose and includes live accompaniment by Symphony San Jose. The San Jose Nutcracker transports the story to turn-of-the-century San Jose with historical references, including a growing replica of the historic San Jose Light Tower, a skyline inspired by the city in 1905, costumes for the first act inspired by period dolls from the History San Jose archives, and a second act inspired by the valley once known as “The Valley of Heart's Delight.” New Ballet also offers My Very First Nutcracker as a shortened performance for youngest audiences with reduced prices, and its performances are described as vibrant celebrations of dance and fun theatrical experiences for the whole family. New Ballet celebrates the virtuosity of classical ballet and the cathartic power of the performing arts, and at New Ballet all individuals are embraced, with the stated belief that ballet is for everyone.

New Ballet’s Company and School state that they deliver ballet performances and instruction in San Jose, California, and that they are a positive learning environment wherein dancers grow, thrive, and realize their potential. They state that they develop dancers by focusing on the developing individual first, and that dancers are supported by instructors dedicated to each dancer and to excellence in the art of ballet. New Ballet states that it makes premier ballet training accessible to its community. New Ballet’s programs are made possible in part by an operating grant from the City of San Jose Office of Cultural Affairs, and the organization provides performances and training to the San Jose community, including offering over $90,000 in scholarships and financial aid annually, with a stated goal of helping close the cultural access gap in Silicon Valley by making ballet training available to those who may face barriers to access. Note: ages 1 and up require a ticket.

External reviewers have described New Ballet and its productions in several ways. The Mercury News called The San Jose Nutcracker “one of the premiere ‘Nutcracker’ productions in Northern California.” Metro Silicon Valley described it as “Delightful. As imaginative as it is captivating!” and also wrote that New Ballet is “easily the area’s leading ballet organization.” ABC7 News called a New Ballet production “amazing in every kind of way!” and the SF Chronicle wrote that “the dancing is of impressive caliber.” Franco De Vita, former Director of American Ballet Theatre’s Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School and Co-Creator of the American Ballet Theatre National Training Curriculum, stated that he is confident the work at New Ballet will be of the highest caliber, second to none. Raymond Lukens, Co-Creator of the American Ballet Theatre National Training Curriculum, stated that he applauds New Ballet’s commitment to the community of San Jose and that the faculty’s passion for classical ballet is surpassed only by their passion for the well-being of the student population so that each student can achieve his or her maximum potential.
