Youth Glass Camps introduces kids and teens to working with glass through hands-on activities in glassblowing, flameworking with borosilicate and soft glass, and fusing. Each session lasts a week and takes place in studios that include the Hot Shop for glassblowing, the Flame Shop for flameworking, the Flat Shop for fusing, and the Cold Shop for coldworking processes such as polishing, sandblasting, cutting, and grinding.

Youth Glass Camps are part of the Bay Area Glass Institute (BAGI), which was founded in 1996 and is a recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. BAGI’s mission is to educate the public about art glass by teaching a variety of glass-working classes, offering free public demonstrations, and bringing in international and locally renowned guest artists to conduct free demonstrations and lectures. BAGI engages a diverse audience through hands-on glassmaking experiences, educational programs, and community partnerships, and its goal is to continue expanding its education and program offerings to artists and the general public. BAGI is funded in part by the City of San Jose’s Office of Cultural Affairs, is supported by SVCreates in partnership with the County of Santa Clara, and cosponsors the Great Glass Pumpkin Patch®. In 2025, BAGI’s community activities, including school programs, festivals, and events, reached approximately 129,000 people and generated over $400,000 in revenue for BAGI and participating artists, with $261,671 distributed directly to artists. Parking is free for visitors, and anyone planning a visit through glass experiences, studio classes, team building events, or other activities is required to sign a liability waiver.
