The program also includes having caterpillars in the classroom and watching them transform into butterflies, as well as a Montessori Orientation.

The Montessori School of San Leandro has provided preschool and day care center services since 1995. The school is dedicated to providing a nurturing and stimulating environment for children to grow, learn, and thrive, and states that each child is a unique individual with limitless potential. It is dedicated to cultivating lifelong learners who possess a love for knowledge, strong character, and the skills necessary to succeed in an ever-changing world.

All teachers have state-required units in Early Childhood Education, CPR and First Aid Training, Mandated Reporter Training, and criminal background checks. Most hold higher education degrees and Montessori credentials through Montessori accredited training programs or are currently in training, and the lead teachers are AMS credentialed while all teachers are actively working towards their Montessori credential. Every classroom consists of a head teacher and two qualified assistants for a group as large as 36 students, with a teacher-to-child ratio of one teacher visually observing and supervising at most 12 children in attendance. Ms. Sarah is the school director and head teacher/principal.

The Montessori School of San Leandro is affiliated with the American Montessori Society (AMS) and licensed by the State of California through Community Care Licensing. The campus uses a touchless attendance system, daily sanitizing and janitorial services, external security cameras, access code entry, and an emergency disaster plan, and follows the Montessori approach of multi-age or mixed-age grouping as a fundamental aspect of the method.

Families are actively involved in their child’s education through regular communication, parent workshops, and opportunities to participate in school events and activities. All parents are members of the Parent Association and are encouraged to join one or more Parent Committees, with each family responsible for ten hours of work commitment per year per child.

Parent testimonials describe children progressing in language, social skills, drawing, writing, letter recognition, reading, basic arithmetic, and simple math concepts, and mention children being excited and happy to go to school and making friends. Parents specifically mention Director Ms. Sarah as organized, energetic, loving, professional, and dedicated, and describe her as taking care of children like a second mom. Several parents highlight teachers such as Ms. Amela, Ms. Howida (also spelled Howaida), Ms. Reina, Ms. Noemi, Ms. Jimmy, and Ms. Martha as great or outstanding teachers whose experience in Montessori methodology shows, who communicate well with parents, and who show authentic concern for children’s education and development. Multiple parents state that they are happy with their choice of the school, highly recommend the program, and feel grateful or lucky to have found it.
